Typically, a Finnish employer posts an employee to work temporarily in another EU country. In order for the employee to continue to be covered by Finnish social security, the employer applies for an A1 certificate from the Finnish Centre for Pensions for the employee.

Working in several countries and for different employers

If a worker works in several countries and for different employers, the worker has to sort out their own social security. A worker residing in Finland must apply for the certificate from the Finnish Centre for Pensions (as illustrated below) so that it can establish which country’s social security laws should be applied to the work.
