Employer, please make sure that your employee who works regularly in two or more EU countries has a valid A1 certificate. One certificate covers working in all EU countries.

If an employee regularly works in two or more EU countries, they must have a valid A1 certificate as proof of being covered by Finnish social security. Working in several countries can include, for example, regular business or training trips, remote work or project work.

As the employer, you apply for the A1 certificate for your employee from the Finnish Centre for Pensions. You can apply for one certificate that covers all work your employer does in EU countries. You can apply for and receive the certificate for up to two years at a time.

Apply for an extension to the A1 certificate

The period of validity of the A1 certificate is written on the certificate. If the validity period expires and your employee continues to work abroad, you must apply for an extension of the certificate from the Finnish Centre for Pensions. If you applied for the initial certificate through our eServices, use the pre-filled renewal application provided by the service.

If your employee is not planning to work abroad after the A1 certificate has expired, you do not need to apply for an extension of the certificate. If Kela needs information about work abroad after the A1 certificate has expired, your employee must contact Kela directly.

How to apply for an A1 certificate

Apply for the A1 certificate via our eServices. It speeds up the processing of the application.
