In 2024, the Finnish Centre for Pensions sent a total of 5,199 pension claims abroad. Approximately 14 per cent of the claims were sent to two or more foreign liaison bodies.

The Finnish Centre for Pensions transfers a pension claim abroad when a person who lives in Finland claims pension from an EU/EEA country, the United Kingdom, Switzerland or a country with which Finland has a social security agreement.

Half of the pension claims were sent to Sweden (2,605 claims). Estonia received the second highest number (968) of pension claims from Finland. This equalled 19 per cent of all pension claims sent abroad. The third highest number of claims for a pension from abroad was sent to Norway (8%), the fourth to Germany (5%) and the fifth to the United Kingdom (3%).

The rest of the pension applications (802 applications or 15% of all pension claims sent abroad), were directed to other EU, EEA and social security countries.

The number of pension claims sent abroad in 2024 was roughly 500 less than in 2023 and around 2,200 less than in 2022. The exceptionally large increase in the earnings-related pension index encouraged people to claim a pension, especially in late 2022, which was also reflected in the number of foreign pension claims at the time.
